What is included?

The NEW LB2000 Photo Light Pro includes...

How does it work?

You simply place the subject you're photographing inside the white plastic light diffuser. The diffuser is then illuminated by the "Full Spectrum" Fluorescent Circline bulb, which is rated at 5500 Kelvin and 91+ CRI.

The camera can be quickly positioned over the subject via the NEW Flexible Tripod Camera Mount System. The camera's lens is focused through the top opening of the diffuser, giving a clear, evenly illuminated view of the subject every time.

How important is the bulb's temperature and CRI?

A big problem you may encounter while taking Macro photos is color hues cast onto your subject, which come directly from your bulb. The temperature rating of a bulb will result in different color halos projected onto your subject. Lower temperature bulbs, around 2500-3500K (i.e. "cool bulbs") can cast a bluish hue, while higher temperature bulbs, around 6000-7000k (i.e. "warm bulbs) can result in an orange glow. However, "Full Spectrum" bulbs utilize a temperature range of 5500K (Kelvin), because it gives the best balanced "white" light for photography. This also means you will not have to do as much color correcting in PhotoShop.

Next, the CRI number (i.e. Color Rendering Index) is critical. Pure sunlight is said to have a CRI of 100 (%), meaning that it has 100% natural sunlight. This is why you achieve such good results when taking macro photos outdoors. Generic bulbs will often have a CRI of 65-75 (%), while "Full Spectrum" bulbs are rated at 90 + (%). Again, this means Full Spectrum bulbs emit over 90% natural sunlight and this is also why they are so effective for clean macro photography.

How does the LB2000 compare to other Professional Light Boxes I see priced at over $500 - $1500?

As for the photo quality... I'll let you judge for yourself. All of the macro images shown on this page were taken with the Photo Light Pro, and have not been "touched up" or color corrected. What makes the LB2000 BETTER than the rest (IMHO) is the fact that it's totally portable. What good is a light box if you have to leave it at home. Trust me, I have a HUGE "Custom Made" Light Box at the house, but it rarely gets used because I'm never home. I take the LB2000 to every watch convention I attend, so every picture I take is perfect.

Do I need to buy a $1000 camera to get good results with the LB2000?

Absolutely not. The LB2000 Photo Light Pro was designed to provide professional lighting and thus improve the macro capabilities of your particular camera. With that being said, the better your camera's quality, the better your results will be with the LB1000. I currently use a Pentax Optio S6, which is a nice 6 MegaPixel camera with a good digital zoom. And the best part is the price... at right around $200... that's right, you can achieve GREAT QUALITY pics with a $200 camera!! Like most digital cameras, the Pentax Optio S6 has a Macro mode combined with a timer setting, which is very useful while taking Macro pics.

We have achieved very good results from even less expensive cameras, but you will always get your best results by using a quality camera with a zoom lens that has a focal distance of less than a couple inches. This means, in Macro mode, the camera can zoom in on an object less than a couple inches away. This will allow the lens to extend down into the plastic light diffuser and thus, by utilizing the lens' natural fish-eye characteristic, give you a broader field of view. It is worth mentioning that the 16-page user's manual also includes a detailed section with tips on taking Macro photos.

A Note from the Inventor

For over 10 years I, like many of you, struggled while taking good Macro (close-up) photos. Then, in January of 2002, I started working on my latest book, The Rolex Report: An Unauthorized Reference Book for the Rolex Enthusiast. In this illustrated reference book, I featured over 400 high-resolution images. In order to achieve the quality necessary for such a printing, I took a whole new approach at solving this macro lighting problem. The result was a very primitive version of the lighting system you see offered here.

I started using the system to photograph various items for sale on eBay and, due to the increased quality of my images, my sales quickly rose by over 25%.

Over the following years, I made improvements to the system, including making it portable in order to take it on location while lecturing at various watch conventions across the country. Everyone was amazed at the quality of photos I was able to achieve with this system, and asked if I would ever consider producing the piece commercially.

After making additional design improvements, we unveiled the LB1000 Photo Light Pro at the NAWCC National Convention in Oklahoma City in July, 2004. The response and feedback was outstanding.

Now, after numerous design improvements, we are pleased to present the latest model... the LB2000 Photo Light Pro.

Many of the thumbnail images shown throughout this page were taken on location at our booth during various WWT, NAWCC & NPA Conventions,
using a Nikon COOLPIX 5700, or Pentax Optio S6, with the Photo Light Pro. Each image took less than one minute to set up and shoot, and none of the
